nDreams VR Studio to Reduce Workforce by Up to 17.5%

The UK-based VR studio, nDreams, has announced plans to downsize its workforce by up to 17.5%. In a statement, CEO Patrick O'Luanaigh explained that despite exploring alternative solutions, the company's new strategic direction may result in redundancies affecting a significant number of employees. According to the company's LinkedIn profile, which lists its employee count as between 201 and 500, this could translate to between 35 and 88 job losses across various levels of the organization. O'Luanaigh informed nDreams colleagues about the potential redundancies, stating that the decision was made after months of navigating a challenging VR gaming market. "We have explored multiple alternatives to avoid such action over many months in a challenging VR games market, situated within a tough gaming landscape more broadly. It's with deep regret that we are looking at losing valued and talented members of our teams," he said. The company is committed to providing support to affected employees, including outplacement assistance and internal job relocation. Despite the difficulties, nDreams remains committed to its mission of pushing the boundaries of VR gaming technology and creating innovative titles. "For now, our priority is to support our people in this process as we work through reshaping for the future," the statement concludes. This latest announcement brings the total number of job losses in the gaming industry in 2024 to nearly 13,000.
