Annapurna's Demise: Control 2, Wanderstop, and Mixtape Remain Unscathed
The recent news of Annapurna Interactive's collapse has prompted a response from developers with upcoming projects slated for publication by the firm, with many confirming that their projects remain unaffected. Remedy's communications director, Thomas Puha, took to social media to clarify that the studio's deal for Control 2 and its TV projects was with Annapurna Pictures, not the video games branch, implying that these projects are not impacted. As Control 2 is being self-published by Remedy, with Annapurna's involvement limited to funding, the collapse is unlikely to affect its development. Similarly, Davey Wreden, the developer behind The Stanley Parable, confirmed that his new project, Wanderstop, is also unaffected. Wreden tweeted, 'Just for the folks asking, we are 100% okay. Nothing's gonna stop us from getting Wanderstop out the door very soon.' The title was first revealed during the 2024 summer games showcases. Beethoven & Dinosaur, the studio behind The Artful Escape, also announced that its latest project, Mixtape, will continue as planned, simply stating, 'Appreciate all those who reached out. Mixtape continues.' Matt Newell, the developer of Lushfoil Photography Sim, expressed cautious optimism, stating that the game is 'mostly complete' and therefore likely to be unaffected. However, Newell acknowledged the loss, saying, 'But this news is definitely a loss, the Annapurna Interactive team were great to work with and gave the project a lot of love.' The fate of Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, which was being developed internally by Annapurna Interactive, remains uncertain. Following the collapse of talks with its parent company over independence, the majority of Annapurna Interactive's team resigned. According to Bloomberg sources, Annapurna president Hector Sanchez assured developers that the company would honor its existing contracts. In addition to the aforementioned titles, eight more upcoming projects are scheduled for publication by Annapurna, including Blendo Games' Skin Deep, Dinogod's Bounty Star, and Great Ape Games' The Lost Wild.
