Embracer Group to Retain 4A Games and Zen Studios After Saber Sale

Following the sale of Saber Interactive, Embracer Group has announced that it will continue to own and operate Metro developer 4A Games and Pinball FX creator Zen Studios. The sale, which was finalized in March for $247 million, saw Saber Interactive change hands to Beacon Interactive, a company founded by Saber co-founder Matthew Karch. Initially, Beacon had the option to purchase 4A Games and Zen Studios from Embracer, but this option has now been cancelled. As part of the sale agreement, Embracer Group has received an early payment of $168.4 million for Saber's assets, with an additional $28.1 million to be paid in 2024 and 2025. Embracer Group is currently undergoing a restructuring process, which will see the company split into three separate entities: Asmodee, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. 4A Games will be retained under Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends, which will focus on AAA game development, while the future ownership of Zen Studios is still to be determined, with Coffee Stain & Friends being a potential candidate due to its focus on indie games.
