Mass Exodus at Annapurna Interactive Following Failed Spin-Off Discussions
A significant portion of Annapurna Interactive's staff has left the company after negotiations with its parent firm broke down. Established in 2016 as a subsidiary of Annapurna Pictures, the publisher has seen success with titles like Stray, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Outer Wilds. However, as Annapurna Pictures adjusts its gaming strategy, the Interactive team sought independence. According to reports, the talks, led by Nathan Gary, were unsuccessful. As a result, key personnel, including the heads of Annapurna Interactive and around two dozen staff members, have departed. Despite this, the company plans to continue supporting its slated titles, including a Silent Hill game, and expand its gaming operations, albeit with the need to replace lost talent or outsource functions such as marketing and localization. Annapurna aims to more closely align its gaming division with its film and TV operations, recently rehiring Hector Sanchez as president of interactive and new media and securing a deal with Remedy for the TV and movie rights to the Control and Alan Wake series.
