Steam Enhances Parental Controls with New Family Features

Valve has introduced its revamped Steam Families feature, offering a comprehensive set of parental controls and tools for managing family gaming experiences. This new feature combines and expands upon the existing Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View, streamlining settings and providing a more unified experience. All existing settings and developer configurations for eligible games will be automatically transferred. A single user can create a family group of up to five members, which can be managed through the Steam client, mobile devices, or web browsers. The Family Sharing feature enables a shared game library, where each user maintains their own saved progress, achieves individual accomplishments, and can play the same game simultaneously. In terms of parental controls, adults can oversee their child's activity and impose various restrictions, including: - Controlling access to age-appropriate games - Limiting access to the Steam Store, community features, or friend chat - Establishing playtime limits on an hourly or daily basis - Reviewing playtime requests - Approving or denying requests for extended playtime or feature access, either temporarily or permanently - Recovering a child's account in the event of a lost password
