Krafton Makes Significant $89 Million Investment in Spoon Labs, a Leading Short-Form K-Drama Platform

Krafton, the company behind PUBG, has made a substantial investment of KRW 120 billion ($89.3 million) in Spoon Labs, a Seoul-based streaming company. Notably, this is Krafton's largest investment in a non-gaming area to date. Spoon Labs operates an audio platform called Spoon and has recently launched Vigloo, a short-form video service with a focus on K-drama content. The decision to invest was motivated by the promising growth potential of the short-form video drama market and the opportunity to acquire new intellectual property. According to Krafton, the short-form video drama market is valued at approximately $5 billion in China, with the US and Japan also presenting significant market opportunities. Krafton CEO CH Kim expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: "Spoon Labs has demonstrated robust overseas business capabilities through its Spoon platform over the past few years. We anticipate creating engaging entertainment that can be enjoyed globally and establishing a thriving ecosystem within the short-form drama platform business." Hyukjae Choi, CEO of Spoon Labs, added: "We have been solidifying our position as a global content platform company by expanding our business from audio to video. With plans to enter the US and Japanese markets soon, we look forward to collaborating with Krafton to set a new international standard in the short-form drama sector." This investment follows Krafton's recent acquisitions, including Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP from Xbox, as well as a minority stake in Polish developer Far From Home.
