PS5 Pro to Debut on November 7 with a $699.99 Price Tag
Following months of speculation, Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, slated for release in November. Lead architect Mark Cerny presented the console's key technical advancements, which significantly enhance the performance of the standard PS5 model. The primary upgrades include a larger graphics processing unit, advanced ray tracing techniques, and AI-driven upscaling, all aimed at delivering more detailed graphics at 60 frames per second. The PS5 Pro will be available as a digital-only model, with the option to purchase a separate disc drive for $79.99. The console is set to launch on November 7, priced at $699.99 in the US, £699.99 in the UK, €799.99 in Europe, and ¥119,980 in Japan. Additional features include Wi-Fi 7 support, VRR, and 8K resolution capabilities, along with a 2TB SSD. Sony's goal with the PS5 Pro is to eliminate the choice between fidelity and performance modes, currently offered in most first-party PS5 titles. The larger GPU is said to render graphics up to 45% faster, while the advanced ray tracing can calculate light's behavior at double or triple the speed of the standard PS5 hardware. The Pro also features custom hardware for machine learning, enabling the AI-driven upscaling technology known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This technology analyzes game images pixel by pixel, adding significant detail to boost resolution. Developers are currently working on adding PS5 Pro support to new and existing titles, including Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and The Last of Us: Part 2. Third-party games confirmed to be supported include Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Alan Wake 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
