Apple's iPhone 16 Boasts Enhanced Gaming Capabilities
Apple recently introduced its newest iPhone, touting its ability to run AAA games, a capability that was once reserved for the more expensive Pro line. The iPhone 16 is equipped with a new A18 chip, which Apple claims provides a 30% increase in speed compared to the iPhone 15's CPU. According to the company, this enhancement enables the device to support demanding AAA games while also significantly extending battery life. Apple asserts that the iPhone 16 essentially puts a high-performance gaming device in the user's pocket. With the integration of hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus can more accurately depict the behavior of light, achieving frame rates up to five times higher than those obtained with software-based ray tracing. Both models are compatible with AAA games that were previously only available on the iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, Apple is introducing a Game Mode on iOS 18, aimed at delivering more consistent frame rates. The company claims that this new mode can provide up to 30% higher sustained performance for gaming. Last year, Apple announced that the iPhone 15 Pro would support native versions of AAA titles, with subsequent releases including Assassin's Creed Mirage and Death Stranding, among others. However, the impact of this feature has been limited, as evidenced by a report earlier this year indicating that the release of Resident Evil 7 on iOS generated only around $28,000 for Capcom. Following this report, an argument was made that premium games are not well-suited for mobile devices, not only due to their price but also because they may convey a negative message about the gaming experience itself.
