Merge Games Shuts Down Chelford Office, Implements Staff Reductions
Merge Games has revealed that it is closing its Chelford office, resulting in layoffs for an undisclosed number of staff members. According to a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz by Maximum Entertainment CEO Christina Seelye, this move is part of a broader consolidation effort initiated earlier in the year. The plan involves consolidating Merge Games' remaining operations into Maximum Entertainment. Seelye stated, "As part of our previously announced restructuring, we have made the tough but necessary decision to implement additional cost-saving measures, which regrettably include reducing our workforce." "As a recently integrated company with a robust and competitive roadmap ahead, we must conclude the year and enter 2025 in a stronger, more streamlined position to continue delivering exceptional results." The rebranding of Zordix's gaming division as Maximum Entertainment occurred in February 2023. This move brought together publishers Maximum Games, Modus Games, Just For Games, and Merge Games, along with developer Modus Studios, under a single umbrella brand.
