Andrew C. Greenberg, Co-Creator of the Pioneering Game Wizardry, Passes Away at 67

The co-creator of the groundbreaking game Wizardry, Andrew C. Greenberg, has passed away at the age of 67. This news was initially reported by PC Gamer and announced on Facebook by Robert Woodhead, Greenberg's long-time friend and collaborator. Greenberg and Woodhead jointly developed the 1981 game Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, a seminal role-playing game that featured a party of characters, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that players had to manage throughout their adventure. In a Facebook post that included two images - the Wizardry splash page and a photo of Woodhead and Greenberg from the 1980s - Woodhead expressed his sadness, saying, "I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of my dear friend, the Evil Wizard Wedna." Wedna, which is "Andrew" spelled backwards, was the name of the Mad Overlord in the game. Wizardry is widely recognized as an inspiration for several influential RPGs, including Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest.
