Remedy Partners with Annapurna to Co-Fund Control 2 and Bring Control and Alan Wake to Screen
In a significant move, Annapurna has partnered with Remedy to co-fund the development of Control 2, with a 50% investment in the project. This partnership also grants Annapurna the rights to adapt both the Control and Alan Wake series into film and television productions. As part of Remedy's strategy to self-publish certain titles, this deal ensures that Remedy will retain full IP rights to both series while Annapurna secures licensing rights for screen adaptations. The agreement promises a substantial revenue share for Remedy from game sales after initial investments are recouped, and similarly, Annapurna will benefit from a significant share of revenue from film and TV productions. Following the success of Alan Wake 2, which was funded and published by Epic Games, and the critical acclaim of the first Control game published by 505 Games, this partnership marks a new chapter in expanding Remedy's franchises to a broader audience. According to Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, this partnership with Annapurna is a strategic move to bring Remedy's beloved franchises to life in new mediums, leveraging Annapurna's expertise in film, TV, and interactive media. Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna, and Hector Sanchez, President of Interactive and New Media, expressed their excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the potential for innovative storytelling and the breaking of new ground in cross-medium collaborations. With this deal, Remedy aims to push the boundaries of its franchises, including the development of Control 2, the Control multiplayer spin-off 'Condor', DLC for Alan Wake 2, and the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 for Rockstar.
