Games Done Quick Announces New Ownership Structure

The ownership of Games Done Quick, a prominent speed running organization, has been formally transferred to its director of operations, Matt Merkle. This development follows the decision by founder Mike Uyama to step down from his role last year. As the new majority owner and managing director, Merkle will continue to oversee the company's operations, working closely with a leadership team that includes Jason Deng, director of technology, and Ashley Farkas, business director, both of whom hold partial ownership of the company. Merkle expressed his gratitude towards Uyama, acknowledging the significance of his contribution to the company and reaffirming his commitment to building upon Uyama's legacy. Uyama, in turn, reflected on his decision to step down, citing the need for personal time and confidence in the team's ability to guide Games Done Quick towards a successful future. The organization remains dedicated to its mission of raising funds for charitable causes, having collected over $51.7 million through its annual speedrunning events. The upcoming Awesome Games Done Quick event, scheduled to take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from January 5 to January 12, will continue this tradition.
