Relic Hunters Legend Shifts from Free-to-Play to Paid Model for Long-Term Viability
Rogue Snail has revealed that Relic Hunters Legend is transitioning from a free-to-play to a paid model. This change comes after the studio's separation from Gearbox Publishing, which led to the developer reclaiming the game's rights. As a self-published title, Rogue Snail aims to create a more sustainable business model. Alongside the shift away from free-to-play, the game will also become available offline and switch from cloud saves to local storage. Currently in Early Access, Relic Hunters Legend will launch at a price point of $20. According to Rogue Snail CEO Mark Venturelli, the decision was driven by the challenges of maintaining a small indie studio and the desire to focus on game development without the burden of monetization and server management. Venturelli stated, "Although we still believe in the potential for fair and sustainable free-to-play games, this approach ensures the game's longevity and allows us to deliver on our promises to the community."
