European Gaming Sector Sees Significant Growth with 75% of Players Being Adults

A recent report by Video Game Europe and the European Games Developer Federation (EGDF) provides an in-depth analysis of the European video game sector in 2023. Key findings from the report include that 75% of European gamers are adults, with an average age of 31.4 years. Additionally, 53% of Europeans engage in video games, and the industry has seen a 5% increase in revenue, reaching €25.7 billion in major European markets. The report also notes a 1.3% increase in female representation in the workforce, now standing at 24.4%. Comparing trends from 2022, the report highlights that while the preferred gaming platforms have seen slight shifts, with 46% of gamers playing on PC, 56% on console, and 68% on smartphones or tablets, the overall playtime has remained consistent over the past 12 years. Revenue distribution across devices shows a balance between console and smartphone/tablet gaming, each accounting for 41%, with PC gaming at 14% and on-demand/streaming services at 3%. Industry leaders emphasize the need for strategic investment in talent development, addressing the skills gap, and supporting education to sustain the sector's growth and competitiveness.
