Following its release, Black Myth: Wukong has made history on Steam, attracting a massive player base. As of the latest update, a staggering 2.13 million users are playing the game simultaneously, making it the highest-performing single-player game to date. This milestone surpasses the launch record set by Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, which drew one million concurrent users within two hours of its launch. Additionally, it has eclipsed the peak user count of Palworld, another 2024 hit, which peaked at 2.1 million concurrent users according to VG247. However, the all-time record remains with PUBG, which reached an unprecedented 3.3 million concurrent players. Despite its immense popularity on Steam, the launch of Black Myth: Wukong has been marred by controversy. Earlier in the week, Game Science, the game's developer, faced scrutiny over a reported document sent to influencers and content creators, instructing them to avoid mentioning COVID-19, 'politics,' or 'feminist propaganda' in their coverage. The studio has yet to address these concerns publicly.
