Riot Games Restructures Leadership in Esports and Entertainment
Riot Games has revamped its leadership structure in the esports and entertainment divisions. John Needham, the current president of esports, has taken on the role of president of publishing and esports, tasked with developing innovative, integrated experiences that bring together esports, music, and creative publishing. Needham's career at Riot began in 2017 as the managing director of Europe, and he has since held various senior positions. Prior to joining Riot, he served as the head of European publishing at Lionhead and CEO of Cryptic Studios. The company has also launched two new studios to oversee its TV and film development, including an animation studio led by Christian Linke, creative director, and a live-action studio headed by Brian Wright, chief content officer. Linke joined Riot in 2010 and has held several roles, including data analyst, composer for League of Legends, and creator and showrunner of Arcane. Wright was appointed chief content officer in 2021, following a seven-year stint at Netflix as vice president of family content. According to Riot CEO Dylan Jadeja, the company has been working to reorganize and realign its structure to better serve players over the past year. Jadeja expressed confidence that the new leadership team, comprising John, Christian, and Brian, will collaborate with game development teams to create memorable moments for players.
