European Video Game Sales Experience Uptick in July Despite Lack of New Releases
Europe saw a 3.4% increase in video game sales during July, with 2.4 million units sold. Notably, the top-selling game was EA Sports FC 24, which benefited from the European Championships, selling 69% more copies than FIFA 23 did the previous year. The charts also featured older titles like Hitman Absolution, which saw a surge due to a free game promotion on Amazon Prime. In terms of new releases, EA Sports College Football 25 debuted at number 39. However, console hardware sales plummeted by 46% year-over-year, with the PS5 leading the market despite a 56% decline. The Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series consoles also saw significant drops. Accessory sales fell by nearly 20%, with the PS5 DualSense controller being the top-selling item.
