Epic Games Unveils Mobile Store, Expanding to iOS and Android with Fortnite and Fall Guys
The Epic Games Store has officially launched on mobile devices, bringing its catalog of games to Android worldwide and iOS in the European Union. This move marks a significant milestone in the company's efforts to expand its reach and challenge the dominance of existing app stores. The Epic Games Store on mobile will initially feature three titles: Fortnite, which returns to iOS, Rocket League Sideswipe, and the newly released Fall Guys Mobile, offering cross-play and cross-progression with the PC and console versions. These games will also be available on AltStore, with plans to launch on Aptoide and the One Store at a later date. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney expressed gratitude to the European Commission for enabling the launch of the Epic Games Store on iOS through the Digital Markets Act, emphasizing the need for fair competition on mobile platforms. Sweeney stated that despite Apple's and Google's efforts to hinder their progress, Epic Games remains committed to bringing its games back to all platforms worldwide. The company aims to achieve 100 million new net installs across iOS and Android by the end of 2024, with General Manager Steve Allison acknowledging the challenges posed by Apple's and Google's measures to discourage users from installing apps outside their respective stores. Epic Games will offer a competitive 88-12 revenue share to developers, along with programs like Epic First Run, which provides 100% revenue for six-month exclusivity deals. As the Epic Games Store expands to mobile, the company is poised to compete with established stores, leveraging its exclusive content and competitive terms to attract developers and consumers. The launch marks a significant step in Epic Games' ongoing legal disputes with Apple and Google over anti-competitive practices, with Sweeney reiterating the company's commitment to fighting for fair competition on mobile platforms.
