Powerful Pro Baseball Tops Japan's July Charts

In July, Konami's Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025 secured the top spot in Japan's sales rankings, achieving a combined total of 260,000 units sold within its first two weeks of release on July 18. Available on both Switch and PS4, this title outperformed its predecessor, eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2022, which had sold a combined 202,000 units, according to the latest data from Famitsu. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, the previous month's best-seller, dropped to second place with 71,000 copies sold, while Mario Kart 8 rebounded to fourth place with 37,000 units sold. Nintendo World Championships: NES edition, a new entry, broke into the top five within a week of its July 18 launch, selling 36,000 units. Luigi's Mansion 3, released in October 2019, reached a significant milestone last month, ranking twelfth and selling an additional 16,000 units to bring its total retail sales to over one million. Nintendo led the market with a 33.5% share, valued at ¥2.4 billion, while Konami jumped to second place with a 29% share, worth ¥2 billion, thanks to the success of Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025. The Switch was the best-selling format in July, accounting for 84% of sales with 995,391 boxed games sold, and also led in hardware sales with 229,316 units sold across its three models. The PS5 sold 125,000 units across its two editions, and the Xbox Series X|S sold a combined 13,756 units. The top 10 best-selling physical games in Japan from July 1, 2024, to July 28, 2024, are ranked according to Famitsu's data.
