Global Box Office: Borderlands Movie Earns $16 Million

The Borderlands film garnered $16.5 million in global box office sales during its debut weekend. According to Variety, the production budget was $115 million, with an additional $30 million spent on marketing and distribution. The movie generated $8.8 million at the US box office, representing just 6% of its production costs. International presale tickets covered 60% of the film's production expenses, as per studio sources. In response to questions about the movie's box office and critical reception during Take-Two's earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that the film's performance would not affect the publisher or the Borderlands franchise financially. The Borderlands movie was first announced in 2015, with Eli Roth joining as director and co-writer in 2020. The film's executive producers included Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and Zelnick.
