UK Gaming Scene Sees EA Sports College Football 25 Make a Strong Debut

July saw a slow pace for new video game releases in the UK, with EA Sports College Football 25 achieving the highest new entry at number 7 in the charts. Despite American football's relatively niche following in the UK, the game had a robust start, with sales more than doubling those of Madden NFL 24 over its first two weeks last year. EA Sports FC 24 was the best-selling game in July, boosted by the European Football championships, with sales 46% higher than FIFA 23's during the same period the previous year. Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn jumped to number 6 following the release of its new expansion, Dawntrail. Overall, UK sales of PC and console games decreased by 2.9% compared to July last year, with 2.35 million games sold. The top six games were all released before 2024, highlighting the recent dearth of major game releases. Console sales dropped 22% month-on-month to just over 77,000, with the PS5 remaining at number 1 despite a 31% sales decrease. The PS5 reached four million sales in the UK, 31 weeks behind the PS4. In accessories, over 540,000 products were sold, with the PlayStation Portal being the number one selling device by revenue, followed by the White DualSense controller.
