Apple Revises EU Fees and Linking Options Following DMA Investigation

In response to the European Union's Digital Markets Act, Apple has updated its terms of service to permit developers to connect users to external payment systems or alternative platforms, provided they accept the revised terms. However, Apple will impose a 5% initial acquisition fee on digital purchases made within the first year of installation for new users, as well as a 10% store services fee over the same period. These fees supplement the existing Core Technology Fee of €0.50 per first install per year for the first one million installs. For existing team developers, a 20% fee applies to sales through external links, reduced to 7% for small businesses. The adjustments aim to improve compliance with the Digital Markets Act, following the European Commission's preliminary findings in June that Apple's business terms breached the new regulations.
