Unity Experiences 16% Revenue Decline to $449 Million in Q2
Unity has unveiled its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2024, revealing a revenue decrease that nonetheless exceeded the company's prior guidance of $420-$425 million for the quarter. The period also saw significant executive changes, including the departure of CFO Luis Visoso, who joined in 2021, and the appointment of Mark Barrysmith as interim CFO, alongside two additional executive appointments. Key financial highlights include a total revenue of $449 million, representing a 16% year-over-year decline, with Create Solutions revenue increasing by 4% to $129 million and Grow Solutions revenue decreasing by 9% to $296 million. The company reported a net loss of $126 million, an improvement from the $193 million loss in the same quarter the previous year. Create Solutions led Unity's revenue, primarily driven by a 14% growth in game subscriptions and a significant contribution from industries, which accounted for 18% of Create Solutions' total revenue. Growth Solutions saw a slight decline but returned to sequential growth, attributed to product enhancements and seasonal factors. Unity's strategic revenue forecast for the third quarter anticipates generating between $415 million and $420 million, representing a potential year-on-year decline of up to 6%. For the full year, the company adjusted its guidance to between $1.68 billion and $1.69 billion, down from the previous range of $1.76 billion to $1.8 billion, indicating a potential decrease of up to 3%. The company cited that while improvements to its ad network and level-play products are yielding positive impacts, the full effect on revenue growth is expected to take longer to materialize. Additionally, Unity announced the appointment of Jim Payne as Chief Product Officer for advertising and Alex Blum as Senior Vice President of corporate development, bolstering its executive team.
