Türkiye Blocks Roblox Over Concerns About Child Protection
Following a government decision, Roblox has been suspended in Türkiye. According to an announcement by the Turkish Minister of Justice, Yılmaz Tunç, on social media, the ban was enforced due to concerns that the platform's content could potentially put children at risk of exploitation. In a statement, Roblox expressed its commitment to adhering to local laws and regulations, emphasizing its shared dedication to child safety with local lawmakers. The company looks forward to working together to promptly reinstate Roblox in Türkiye. Recently, a report by Bloomberg revealed that Roblox had reported over 13,000 incidents to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2023, resulting in the arrest of 24 predators for grooming and abuse in the US. However, Roblox disputed the report's findings, citing significant errors and oversimplifications regarding the complexities of online child safety. Earlier in 2023, a group of parents filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging inadequate child safety measures that led to financial losses and exposure of their children to mature content. In response, Roblox asserted that it has implemented various features to ensure child safety and has developed tools to provide parents with insight into their children's activities, thereby disputing the allegations.
