Meta Closes Ready at Dawn Studio

According to recent reports, Meta has ceased operations at Ready at Dawn, a renowned game development studio. This news was confirmed by Android Central, which obtained an internal memo sent to employees by Gio Hunt, VP of Oculus Studios. The memo stated that the studio's closure was effective immediately. A Meta spokesperson clarified that the decision was not solely driven by cost-cutting measures, but rather to ensure that Reality Labs, Meta's VR division, can deliver enhanced long-term results while adhering to its new budget constraints. The company has reassured that it will continue to develop first-party VR titles and pursue its virtual reality aspirations. Reality Labs has faced significant financial losses, including a $4.5 billion deficit in Q2. Ready at Dawn, established in 2003 by former Naughty Dog and Blizzard employees, has a notable portfolio, including the Daxter and God of War series, before transitioning to VR with the Lone Echo series in 2017. The studio was acquired by Meta in June 2020 and was affected by the company's layoffs in April 2023.
