Humble Games' Latest Title Faces Uncertainty After Loss of Critical Systems Access

The development studio behind Humble Games' newest release, Bõ: Path of the Teal Lotus, has announced that it unexpectedly lost access to critical systems, citing the sudden restructuring of Humble Games two weeks prior. This move was described as a necessary decision by Humble Games, which is a subsidiary of Ziff Davis, the parent company of Gamer Network, owner of GamesIndustry.biz. In a recent Twitter post, Squid Shock expressed the challenges faced during the launch of Bõ: Path of the Teal Lotus, including the loss of post-launch support due to the publisher's shutdown, which jeopardizes the studio's future. The team emphasized that the situation was not a result of any fault on the part of the Humble Games team they collaborated with, but rather an unfortunate consequence of the current state of the industry. Despite managing to release an update on Steam, Squid Shock has lost access to the console versions of the game and is currently unable to port or provide QA support, as these services were tied to their publisher deal. In response to the situation, Squid Shock has turned to Patreon to secure funding for the game's future content, after exploring all possible alternatives. Meanwhile, Humble Games has released a statement denying shutdown rumors, claiming the company is merely undergoing restructuring, which will not affect upcoming releases. However, former Humble Games staff members have disputed this claim, arguing that it downplays the severity of the impact on the team.
