Electronic Arts' Q1 Performance Surpasses Expectations Despite Revenue Decline

Electronic Arts has released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, revealing a decline in key metrics but performance that surpassed the company's expectations. The successful launch of EA Sports College Football 25, among other titles, has positioned the company for a promising second quarter. For the three months ending June 30, 2024, the company reported: $1.66 billion in revenue, representing a 13% year-over-year decline; $280 million in net income, down 30% from the same period last year; and $1.26 billion in net bookings, a 20% decrease. The decline in net bookings was primarily driven by a 58% drop in full game sales, while live services saw a relatively modest 7% decline. Despite a slow release schedule during the quarter, with only EA Sports F1 24 and Tales of Kenzera: Zau, the company's financial performance was bolstered by the strong launch of EA Sports College Football 25, which attracted five million unique players in its first week. The company's CFO, Stuard Canfield, expressed optimism about the remainder of the year, citing the success of recent launches and the upcoming release of titles such as Madden NFL, EA Sports FC, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. EA Sports College Football 25's launch was hailed as a 'monumental moment' for the company by CEO Andrew Wilson, who also highlighted the record net bookings achieved by EA Sports UFC Mobile and the Battlefield franchise's milestone of 25 million players. The company noted that live services accounted for 75% of net bookings over the past 12 months. Looking ahead, Electronic Arts expects net revenue for the full financial year to range between $7.1 billion and $7.5 billion, with net income projected between $904 million and $1.1 billion, and net bookings expected to fall between $7.3 billion and $7.7 billion.
