Capcom Experiences 44% Decline in Game Sales for Q1 FY25
Capcom has released its financial report for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, revealing a substantial decline in game sales compared to the same period last year. However, the company notes that all business segments have outperformed their planned targets. The financial highlights for the quarter ending June 30, 2024, include: Net sales of ¥29.6 billion ($192 million), representing a 32.5% year-over-year decrease; Digital Contents net sales of ¥21.4 billion ($138 million), down 43.5% year-over-year; and Net income of ¥9.97 billion ($64.7 million), a 45.1% decline from the previous year. Game sales plummeted by nearly 44%, but this was offset by strong performances in other sectors, including an 18% increase in Arcade Operations and a 147% surge in Amusement Equipments. The company's Digital Contents sales were primarily driven by titles released in previous years, as most of its new releases for 2024 are scheduled for the second half of the year. Capcom sold 9.53 million copies of its games during the quarter, down from 13.5 million in the same quarter the previous year, which saw the release of Street Fighter 6. Notably, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, initially released in 2021, reached two million units sold during the quarter, while the Monster Hunter franchise as a whole has surpassed 100 million copies sold globally. Additionally, the mobile game Monster Hunter Now has achieved 15 million downloads. The company stated that progress toward achieving its full-year plan for the Digital Contents segment is generally in line with expectations. Looking ahead, Capcom anticipates net sales of ¥165 billion ($1.07 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, representing an 8.3% year-over-year growth.
