UK Arts Union Equity Offers Guidance Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike

The Equity union, representing the UK's performing arts and entertainment sector, has expressed solidarity with SAG-AFTRA's decision to authorize a strike against US video game companies. In a statement, Equity's assistant general secretary, John Barclay, emphasized the union's support for its US counterpart, acknowledging the crucial role voice and performance capture artists play in the gaming industry. While UK legislation prevents Equity from participating in the strike, the union has provided guidance for its members and SAG-AFTRA members working in the UK, recommending they continue to work and meet their contractual obligations. Barclay stressed the importance of transparency from studios and game developers operating in the UK, urging them to inform performers if they are working on projects for struck companies and to refrain from using non-disclosure agreements to compromise the bargaining position of creative workers.
