Netflix Adjusts BioShock Film Budget to Create a More Intimate Story

Netflix has reduced the budget for its upcoming BioShock film adaptation, shifting the focus towards a more character-driven narrative. According to Variety, this development was revealed during a Thursday panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where producer Roy Lee stated that the project is being reworked following a change in Netflix's leadership. The streaming giant recently appointed Dan Lin as its new film chief, replacing Scott Stuber, who was at the helm when the BioShock film was initially announced in 2022. Lee explained, "The new management has reduced the budget, so we're now working on a more modest scale. The story will be told from a more personal perspective, rather than a grand, large-scale project." Although a release date has not been announced, director Francis Lawrence, known for his work on The Hunger Games series, remains attached to the project. This is not the first time a BioShock movie has faced budget issues; a previous adaptation was announced in 2008, with Gore Verbinski initially set to direct, but it was put on hold due to budget concerns and has since undergone several changes in leadership and direction.
