Germany's Gaming Market Sees 6% Uptick to €10 Billion in 2023

In 2023, Germany's gaming market experienced a 6% growth, reaching €10 billion, with mobile gaming revenue nearly doubling to €2.9 billion from €1.5 billion in 2018. According to a report by the German Games Industry Association (Game), based on data from Data.ai, this growth surpasses the 1% increase seen in the previous year. The expansion is attributed to the sales of gaming consoles and accessories, as well as in-game and in-app purchases. Notably, in-app purchases accounted for 98% of mobile gaming revenue, with online gaming services and individual game sales contributing €43 million and €5 million, respectively. The number of mobile gamers in Germany increased by 300,000 to 24.6 million, with women making up 52% of players and men comprising 48%. Felix Falk, managing director of Game, noted, 'Despite the smartphone's long-standing dominance, the mobile gaming sector continues to thrive, attracting both seasoned gamers and newcomers alike. The diversity of mobile games, ranging from casual to complex and esports titles, is a significant strength of the gaming app market.'
