Blue Scarab Secures $7 Million in Funding to Fuel Debut MMORPG
Blue Scarab Entertainment, a newly founded game development studio based in Sweden, has successfully completed a seed funding round, garnering $7 million in investments. The funding round was spearheaded by NetEase and Behold Ventures, with additional participation from key industry figures, including Jonas Antonsson, co-founder of Raw Fury, Ólafur Andri Ragnarsson, co-founder of Betware, and Stefan Lindeberg, co-founder of Creandum. Under the leadership of seasoned industry professionals, CEO Colin Cragg and CTO Enno Rehling, the studio intends to allocate the funds towards the creation of its debut MMORPG title. The studio's leadership team is further bolstered by the appointment of Craig Morrison, formerly the creative director at DICE, as studio director, alongside Guillaume Lhoyer as principal designer and Ashley Nicollette as director of community and marketing. Notably, both Lhoyer and Nicollette previously collaborated on Helldivers 2 during their tenure at Arrowhead Game Studios. Morrison expressed his vision, stating, "The gaming industry's expansion has introduced diverse new audiences, and we believe there's an opportunity to merge and evolve prior gaming and media experiences into innovative and refreshing content for this broader community." He further emphasized, "Our objective is to harness the collective expertise of our team to craft novel experiences for a more extensive audience than ever before, aiming to challenge genre conventions while leveraging the skills and experience of our assembled team."
