Sega Reaches Agreement in Harassment Case Against Former Staff Member's Abuser
Sega has emerged victorious in a lawsuit against an individual who subjected one of its employees to online harassment, resulting in the perpetrator being ordered to pay a substantial, undisclosed amount of damages. According to a report by Eurogamer, the company accused the individual of posting a barrage of abusive and slanderous comments on social media. Following a court ruling that allowed Sega to obtain the individual's personal details, the matter was settled out of court, with the perpetrator being instructed to remove the offending posts. In a statement, the publisher emphasized its commitment to protecting its employees from harassment, stating, "We take a strong stance against slanderous acts, including threats and intimidation, which we believe are serious human rights violations that compromise the dignity of our employees and undermine our work environment." The company further reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, pledging to take decisive action against any behavior deemed malicious. In a similar case last year, game developer Bungie successfully sued a Destiny 2 player who racially harassed a community manager, resulting in the perpetrator being ordered to pay nearly $500,000 in damages.
