First Break Labs Emerges as New Indie Publishing and Investment Company

A group of former Nintendo and Sega employees has founded First Break Labs, a publishing and investment firm dedicated to supporting independent game developers in achieving their industry debut. The company plans to offer financial backing and marketing expertise to its partner studios, leveraging its team's extensive experience spanning over two decades in the gaming industry, encompassing both indie and AAA titles. Alfonso Cubias, the chief publishing officer, brings more than five years of experience as head of product marketing at Sega, along with senior marketing roles at Digital Extremes and SmileGate. His co-founder, Derek Seklecki, who heads marketing, has a background that includes nearly five years in marketing at Sega and over four years as a bilingual product specialist at Nintendo. To coincide with its launch, First Break Labs has announced its first four signed titles, including Entropy Survivors by Moving Pieces Interactive, Warside from Lavabird, Baseless by Fermenter Games, and Particle Hearts by Underwater Fire. Seklecki expressed his excitement about the talented developers they are working with, stating, "We're eager for the world to experience the future classics these developers are creating, and we have more exceptional titles to unveil in the coming months." Cubias emphasized the company's mission, saying, "At First Break Labs, our goal is to empower independent developers, who often are the source of the most innovative ideas in gaming. We aim to provide them with the necessary resources and support to turn their creative visions into reality and reach a global audience."
