Splash Damage Announces Potential Job Cuts Affecting a Limited Number of Positions

Splash Damage has become the latest game development studio to announce possible layoffs, with employees being notified of their status. The exact number of individuals who may be affected remains unclear, but according to a statement provided to GamesIndustry.biz, the studio emphasizes that the impact will be limited to a small subset of roles. The news of potential job cuts initially surfaced when senior global communications manager Max Downton disclosed on social media that his position was at risk of redundancy, prompting him to enter a consultation period. In response to an inquiry from GamesIndustry.biz, Splash Damage issued the following statement: "As a result of our recent business review, we have been compelled to restructure our organization to better align with the needs of our current and future projects. Regrettably, this means that a limited number of roles within the studio are potentially at risk of redundancy. These positions are primarily located on the operational side of the business, while our development teams will remain largely unaffected. All of our games, including both announced and unannounced titles, will continue to be developed. We acknowledge that this is a challenging time for those affected and are committed to providing support to impacted individuals." Splash Damage is renowned for its expertise in developing multiplayer shooters, having contributed to the creation of various games in the Gears of War and Halo series. The studio is currently working on the online multiplayer game Transformers: Reactivate, as well as Project Astrid, an open-world survival game developed in collaboration with gaming personalities Christopher "Sacriel" Ball and Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek.
