Shift Up Secures $320 Million in Landmark IPO

Shift Up, the renowned developer of the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive Stellar Blade, has announced the successful completion of its initial public offering, raising a substantial 435 billion won, equivalent to $320 million. According to Bloomberg, this marks the largest gaming IPO in South Korea in over two years, surpassing the $50 million threshold, and follows in the footsteps of Krafton, the developer of PUBG, which raised $3.8 billion in 2021. Notably, this is the second-largest South Korean IPO of 2024, with only HD Hyundai Marine Solution's $553 million offering exceeding it. In addition to Stellar Blade, Shift Up has garnered recognition for its popular mobile games, including Goddess of Victory: Nikkie and Destiny Child. Founded in 2013, the studio intends to utilize the proceeds to diversify and expand its gaming portfolio. The company's share price experienced a remarkable 49% surge on its first day of trading, peaking at 89,500 won ($64.87) per share, with nearly 7.3 million shares sold at 60,000 won ($43.49) each. Bloomberg reports that the demand for shares was an impressive 226 times higher than the available supply. Founder and CEO Hyung-Tae Kim will retain his position as the company's largest shareholder, with Tencent Holdings holding the second-largest stake.
