Piranha Bytes Studio Closes Its Doors
Piranha Bytes, a studio owned by Embracer, has ceased operations. According to reports from GameStar, the studio officially shut down at the end of June, after Embracer had been searching for a potential buyer. In January, Piranha Bytes, the developer behind the Elex and Gothic series, acknowledged that the company was facing difficulties, stating on social media that it was indeed going through a tough time, but urged fans not to give up on them yet as they sought a partner to achieve their future objectives. So far, neither Piranha Bytes nor Embracer has made an official statement regarding the reported shutdown. The acquisition of Piranha Bytes by THQ Nordic, along with the rights to the Gothic RPG series, took place in 2019. Last month, Embracer also announced the closure of Pieces Interactive, the developer behind Alone in the Dark. The studio marked its closure by updating its website with a farewell message, expressing gratitude to its players.
