Skillz Takes Voodoo to Court Over Alleged Unlawful Practices and Misleading Ads

Skillz, a prominent mobile gaming platform, has initiated a lawsuit against Voodoo, alleging unlawful business practices and deceptive advertising related to its Blitz Win Cash application. The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, claims that Voodoo's advertisements for the app are misleading, as they suggest the games are fair and skill-based, when in reality, bots are used to predetermine tournament outcomes and player winnings. According to the lawsuit, Voodoo's use of algorithms to influence game results transforms what could be legitimate skill-based games into games of chance, where players have minimal control over the outcome. Furthermore, by utilizing bots to determine player winnings, Voodoo generates revenue from each game played. Skillz asserts that it has suffered financial losses and a decline in customer base due to Voodoo's alleged deceptive practices and the similarities between their platforms, which specialize in online multiplayer game competitions. This lawsuit follows Skillz's recent $42.9 million award against AviaGames in a patent infringement case, where evidence was presented showing AviaGames' use of bots to control game outcomes. AviaGames is currently facing a class-action lawsuit regarding its alleged use of bots.
