Gamescom Latam Emerges as the Largest Gaming Event in the Americas
The inaugural Gamescom Latam has kicked off in São Paulo, Brazil, with a strong start, attracting over 100,000 consumers and numerous major gaming companies. Announced earlier this year, the event is the result of a partnership between Gamescom and the Brazil Indie Games Festival. It commenced with a business-only day and will run through Sunday. Gamescom Latam CEO Gustavo Steinberg stated that the event has already doubled in size compared to its predecessor, with over 100,000 players expected to visit the São Paulo Expo Centre this week. Steinberg noted that this is also the first time more than 1,000 companies have attended, including prominent industry players such as Nintendo, Xbox, Ubisoft, and Epic Games. The event also features a BIG Festival area showcasing a wide range of indie games. Even PlayStation has a presence, with Sega, Plaion, and Square Enix exhibiting their games on official PS5 booths. Steinberg emphasized that the presence of these publishers demonstrates their recognition of the Brazilian gaming market's significance. He cited reports indicating that Brazil is the fifth-largest gaming market in the world in terms of players and the tenth in terms of gaming spending. Steinberg expressed confidence that the industry's support and the event's content will attract a large audience. A full interview with Steinberg, including his plans for Gamescom Latam's future, will be published next week.
