Fortnite Maintains Top Spot in Engagement and Revenue for May
Fortnite remains at the forefront of Newzoo's revenue and engagement charts for May, retaining its position from the previous month. According to the research firm's monthly reports, which track games across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch in six key markets including the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, Fortnite continues to dominate. The top five games on both charts have seen no change from April, with Fortnite leading the pack, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, 3, and Warzone 2.0, Minecraft, Roblox, and Grand Theft Auto 5. Notably, Ubisoft's free-to-play title XDefiant, which launched on May 21 after a closed beta, made a significant jump from 33rd to 6th place in terms of monthly active users. The top 20 revenue-generating games saw the introduction of two new titles: the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima, which debuted in fifth place, and Nintendo's Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, which secured sixth place. Both games claimed the top spot on their respective platform charts, with Ghost of Tsushima's PC release also boosting PlayStation sales. Elden Ring experienced a 17-place rise in the overall revenue ranking, with increased revenue across all platforms prior to the launch of its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on June 21. The rankings are based on data from the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, covering both PC and console games.
