European Game Sales Plummet in May, with EA Sports FC 24 and GTA 5 Leading the Charts
European markets witnessed a decline of nearly 17% in game sales, with 11.6 million PC and console games sold in May, compared to the same period last year. This drop is attributed to the lack of major releases, unlike the previous year, which saw the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Hogwarts Legacy. The top-selling game in May was EA Sports FC 24, followed by Grand Theft Auto 5, and F1 2024, which debuted at number three but experienced a slow start with launch sales down 35% from the previous year. Other notable releases include Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Homeworld 3. The console sales also fell sharply, with a 40% decline, primarily due to tough comparisons with the Nintendo Switch sales last year.Accessory sales also decreased by 25% during the same period.
