Paradox Tectonic Studio Closure: Life By You Project Cancelled
June 19, 2024 Update: Paradox Interactive has made the decision to close Paradox Tectonic, resulting in the loss of 24 jobs. Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester expressed his disappointment, stating: "The news is difficult for our Tectonic colleagues, who worked tirelessly on the early access version of Life By You. Unfortunately, with the cancellation of their main project, we were forced to make the tough decision to shut down the studio. We appreciate their efforts to help Paradox break into a new genre. June 18, 2024 Original Story: Paradox Interactive has announced the cancellation of its upcoming life simulation game, Life By You. According to Mattias Lilja, Paradox's deputy CEO, the game failed to meet the expectations of both the company and the community. In a statement on the Paradox Forum, Lilja said: "Life By You has been in development for a long time, and we were excited about its potential. We delayed the game twice to give the studio a chance to realise its full potential. However, despite seeing some improvements with each delay, we may have focused too much on details rather than the bigger picture." Lilja explained that the latest early access release, scheduled for June 4, was deemed lacking in key areas. Although an extension was considered, the studio ultimately decided that the road to a confident release was too long and uncertain. Life By You was set to be the debut title for Paradox Tectonic, an internal studio established in 2019 under the leadership of former Electronic Arts executive vice president Rod Humble. The game was announced in March 2023, with an initial early access release date planned for later that year, but it was delayed three times.
