Embracer Closes Alone in the Dark Developer Pieces Interactive

According to recent reports, Embracer has shut down Pieces Interactive, the development studio responsible for the latest Alone in the Dark game. The studio's website now displays a farewell message, which reads: "2007 - 2024, Thanks for playing with us." A brief overview of the studio's history is also provided, highlighting the release of over ten titles across various platforms since 2007, with the reimagined Alone in the Dark being its final project. Embracer acquired Pieces Interactive in 2017, and rumors of layoffs began circulating on social media in mid-April. The new Alone in the Dark, a reimagining of the 1992 horror classic, was released last March but did not meet Embracer's sales expectations. In a recent statement, CEO Lars Wingefors expressed his disappointment, saying: "I believe Alone in the Dark was a quality product, but unfortunately, it didn't resonate with enough consumers. It's a harsh reality, and we need to make wise investments." GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Embracer for further information.
