Epic Games Store and Fortnite Set to Launch on iOS in Japan in 2025

Epic Games has revealed plans to bring the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to iOS devices in Japan by the end of 2025. This development comes on the heels of Japan's newly enacted competition law, which mirrors the EU's Digital Markets Act. The law, initially proposed by a government panel in June, is slated to take effect later next year, according to reports from Apple Insider. Once in effect, the law will mandate that Apple and Google permit users to install third-party app stores on their platforms and offer alternative payment options. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney took to social media to comment, "With this change, Fortnite will make its return to iOS in Japan and the UK next year, and the EU later this year." He added, "This marks a significant shift towards a more open ecosystem for app developers and users alike." The EU will be the first region to see the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on iOS, with a launch planned for later this year, operated by Epic Games Sweden.
