Sumo Group Announces Closure of Timbre Games

In a recent development, Sumo Group has confirmed the closure of Timbre Games, following an initial announcement of a 15% staff reduction that put nearly 250 employees at risk of redundancy. The shutdown was not included in the initial announcement but was shared by employees on social media platforms. According to Jenna Dore, a recruitment coordinator, the entire studio team, comprising exceptionally talented individuals, will be let go. The team's technical director, Campbell Dixon, expressed his disappointment, stating that the studio had grown significantly over the past three years but would not be able to complete its game or showcase its work. Established in Vancouver in 2021 as part of Pipework Studios, which Sumo acquired in 2020 for $100 million, Timbre Games has now been officially closed. Sumo Group has confirmed that Timbre is among the affected parties due to the current cuts. An update from Timbre Games on LinkedIn expressed devastation at the closure, acknowledging the exceptional talent and diversity of the team and emphasizing that the shutdown is in no way a reflection on the team's abilities.
