Xbox and Summer Game Fest Games: Which Ones Dominated the Headlines?

The gaming industry witnessed a plethora of live shows and events last week, with two of the most notable being Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase, both of which promised significant announcements and fresh looks at upcoming games. Although Geoff Keighley's show focused on already announced titles, it received mixed feedback, with over 40% of 250,000 gamers giving it a D grade and less than 10% giving it an A grade, according to a poll on X. In contrast, the Xbox Games Showcase was well-received, with 65% of over 163,000 respondents giving it an A grade. To determine which games stole the spotlight, Fancensus used its Flare Score, which considers metrics such as the reach of 3,000 featured websites, the split between headlining articles and mentions, and presence on a website's front page, awarding a score out of 100. The results show that the Xbox Games Showcase had a bigger impact on the press, with the top five scoring titles all featured in this show. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 saw the biggest success, scoring the highest Flare Score overall. The results also indicate that Summer Game Fest was weaker in terms of big-name titles and fresh reveals, while Xbox showcased its strength with a lineup of purchased studios, including Activision Blizzard, MachineGames, and Id Software. Additionally, established franchises continued to make their presence known, with 17 of the top 20 titles featured being from existing franchises. As embargoes drop throughout the week, it will be interesting to see how these games perform outside their initial 24-hour window.
