Sumo Group Announces Staff Reduction of Up to 15%

Sumo Group is implementing cost-cutting measures, putting up to 15% of its workforce, or around 250 employees, at risk. The company acknowledges that it has not been shielded from the challenges affecting the gaming industry and must restructure to address upcoming difficulties. As a leading provider of work-for-hire and co-development services, Sumo Group has collaborated with prominent clients such as PlayStation, Microsoft, and Sega, and operates an indie publishing arm called Secret Mode. With offices across Europe, India, and Canada, the company was acquired by Tencent in a $1.27 billion deal in January 2022. In a statement, the firm expressed pride in its accomplishments over the past 21 years, citing its dedication to creating exceptional games and experiences. However, Sumo Group recognizes that it must adapt to the changing landscape and has made the difficult decision to reduce costs, which will unfortunately result in a reduction of up to 15% of its workforce across various locations. The company is exploring alternative solutions to mitigate the impact on its employees and is committed to supporting its people during this challenging period. Sumo Group's portfolio includes notable titles such as Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Crackdown 3, and Team Sonic Racing, as well as internal projects like Snake Pass and the upcoming Still Wakes The Deep.
