Aptoide Pioneers Non-Apple App Store on iOS

Following the introduction of the Digital Markets Act, Aptoide has successfully launched as the first independent app store on iOS in Europe. The store debuted last Thursday with an initial lineup of six games, including Word Jungle, Condor – A Leap of Faith, and Charades Guess the Word, as reported by TechCrunch. With over 100 developers already expressing interest and a waitlist of 20,000 users, Aptoide plans to distribute between 500 and 1,000 access codes daily to manage growth and gather feedback. The platform also offers an alternative in-app purchase solution for iOS, along with a software development kit for game developers, launched in collaboration with Apple. According to Aptoide's co-founder and CEO, Paulo Trezentos, the Aptoide iOS game store signifies a major shift in the iOS gaming ecosystem, marking a departure from Apple's traditional App Store dominance. While acknowledging Apple's support, Trezentos notes areas for improvement in alternative iOS app distribution. Aptoide is currently focused on games but may expand to other iOS services in the future, as indicated by Trezentos in an interview with The Verge.
