GameStop Sees 26% Drop in Revenue to $882 Million

GameStop has unveiled its financial performance for the first quarter, which concluded on May 4, 2024. The company experienced a 26% slump in sales, reaching $882 million, down from $1.2 billion in the preceding year. This aligns with the preliminary results announced last month, which anticipated sales between $872 million and $892 million. A net loss of $32.3 million was reported, marking a 36% decline from the $50.5 million loss incurred during the same quarter the previous year. The forecast had projected a net loss between $27 million and $37 million. The sales of hardware and accessories, which accounted for 57% of total earnings, plummeted by 30% to $505 million, while software sales decreased by 29% to $240 million, comprising 27% of total earnings. Initially scheduled for June 11, the Q1 results were released on June 7, with no explanation provided for the earlier publication. Notably, GameStop opted not to host a conference call with investors following the release of the results and did not offer an outlook for the ongoing quarter.
