Global Gaming Revenue Sees Mobile Contribute $90.4 Billion in 2023
In 2023, mobile gaming accounted for 49% of the global gaming market's total revenue, reaching $90.4 billion, as per the findings of Adjust's latest report. The report, which analyzed data from January 2022 to January 2024, revealed a 6% year-over-year increase in in-app revenue for gaming apps, despite a 2% decline in overall consumer spending to $107 billion. The top-grossing apps included Candy Crush Saga, Honour of Kings, Roblox, Royal Match, and Coin Master. Looking forward, Adjust predicts that advertising expenditure will surge to $103 billion by 2024 and $131 billion by 2025. However, mobile game installs and sessions witnessed a global decrease of 2% and 7%, respectively. Notably, Q4 2023 saw a 7% year-over-year increase in installs, with LATAM experiencing the most significant growth at 19%, followed by EMEA at 12%, North America at 6%, and APAC at 3%. In terms of global downloads for the previous year, Subway Surfers led the pack, followed by Free Fire, Roblox, Ludo King, and Candy Crush Saga. The action genre dominated installs with an 18% share, closely trailed by hyper-casual and puzzle genres, both at 14%. Action games also boasted the highest session rate at 27%, with puzzle and sports games at 12%, board games at 7%, and casual games at 6%.
